A new consulting service for magazine-makers.
Introducing our new consulting service for magazine-makers!
Making a magazine involves solving somewhere between 100 and 1,000 problems. These include everything from where the heck to find money and building a team to untangling the mysteries of printing and distribution logistics. Most of the time, magazine-makers are on their own when it comes to figuring all this out. It can be lonely, frustrating, and time-consuming, especially because someone out there has already had to solve all of these issues and could definitely smooth the path with a little strategic advice.
That someone is us—over the last nine years, the Broccoli team has had *a lot* of experience dealing with just about every possible dilemma/crisis pertaining to the print magazine realm. So we are opening a magazine-makers hotline—for $75 per 30 minutes, you can book video meeting or call with Anja, Broccoli’s founder and logistics/art direction/business strategy wizard, and me (Stephanie), editorial/systems solution-finder, to delve into whatever problem is blocking your publishing dreams. Think of us like high-powered crowbars, levering away issues to create space for moving forward. And if you decide you need more help than a quick call, we can figure out a way to offer ongoing support and coaching.
We know $75 isn’t nothing, especially for cash-strapped publishers, but we’ve got a lot of earned wisdom and practical experience, and it might just be the help you need, especially if you are dealing with a specific issue. Here are some examples:
What kind of printer do I need?
Should I use a distributor?
How can I get funding for my project?
What’s the best way to work with distributors?
How many copies should I make?
How do I build an audience?
How do I refine my magazine’s editorial scope?
How much should I pay my contributors?
How can I make money making magazines?
We’re also happy to act as sounding boards, helping you stress-test an idea or concept. We both read many, many, MANY magazines and have a solid sense of where there are gaps in the market.
